Our Welsh Ponies

Findeln American Flag
Welsh Pony (Section B) - 13.1 1/2h - reg WPCSA
(Benlea Rambler x Findeln Maple Leaf)

"Flag" is one of the last of Nancy Bedford's famous Findeln Stud ponies. He is a son of Benlea Rambler out of the great Section B mare, Findeln Maple Leaf (now deceased), dam of numerous show ponies and champions including the 1999 Mid-Atlantic Welsh Section B Filly Champion "Findeln Maple Sugar". For many years Flag was paired with Andy in harness, but now Flag is paired with his sibling Libby for our driving pleasure. Flag is a lovely pony to ride cross country and over fences - always quiet and very mannerly - but he is first and foremost an exceptionally driving pony. In his very first Welsh show in-hand he was Reserve Champion Gelding. I absolutely adore him, but... that's what a Welsh pony is for, isn't it!

Benlea Liberty
Welsh Pony (Section B)- 13h - reg WPCSA
(Benlea Rambler x Findeln Siren)

The "queen bee" of the herd is also by Benlea Rambler out of Findeln Siren who is the famous dam of many champion show ponies. Libby has matured from a stunning baby we brought home as a 4 month old into a beautiful mare. Her attitude is very loving, and she thoroughly enjoys every aspect of riding and driving. Everything to her is easy, simple, and wonderfully fun. She fulfilled all my hopes of being a superior riding and driving pony -- which does not surprise me because her full brother Pony Dot Com was the 2003 AHSA National Champion Small Pony Hunter . She is a lovely driving pony, going single as well as in pairs harness with her sibling Flag.

Benlea Drummer Boy
Welsh Pony (Section B) 14 1/2h - reg WPCSA
(Downland Rembrandt x Benlea Deilen)

The youngest member of the herd is a lovely liver chestnut gelding by Section B liver chestnut Welsh stallion Downland Rembrandt (imported from Wales) out of Benlea Deilen who is a daughter of the late Findeln Maple Leaf. His dam's sire is the late Dolrhedyn Rambler, a son of Downland Drummer Boy. "Drummer" shares that same, wonderful attitude of our other ponies -- very loving, happy, and willing -- plus he has a beautiful jump and lovely movement. He loves going out on the trail, has a wonderful easy trot and rocking-horse canter, is happy and relaxed all on his own, AND is the very same way in a group. Lead, follow, or bring up the rear - he's happy wherever I put him with no drama...ever! What a gem! He began foxhunting in 2011, and is doing a stellar job following the hounds. In 2012 he will begin his endurance career. I'm thrilled to be looking forward to many, many more years of riding him in both endurance, and foxhunting.

Beaverwoods Spiderman
Welsh/Arabian - 14.1 3/4h
registered with the
Welsh Pony and Cob Society of Ameria
and Arabian Horse Association

Sire: Snowpony Dragonfly [Welsh Sec B]
Dam: My Leading Lady [Arabian]

My sweetheart Welsh-Arab gelding, affectionately called "Itchy", was 3rd in the nation for Conformation (Half-Welsh) in 1997 in only three shows under his owner and breeder Vicki Bodah of Baliwick Farm. Vicki showed him to numerous championships in driving in pairs and as a tandem leader, and upon his arrival to our farm he demonstrated that his talents knew no bounds. He has a lovely, natural jump over fences and in 2004-05 learned all the ins and outs of foxhunting as my whipper-in horse for the MOC Beagles (Orange Country Hunt country, VA). We began our endurance riding partnership in 2000, competed at the 2006 AERC National Championship, and in Sept 2008 he and I were the "poster child" for the AERC in a full page color ad for endurance riding in the Modern Arabian Horse magazine. He retired in May 2011 at age 21 with 1,625 AERC miles - and I can honestly say every mile has been an adventure. During the past decade he and I have foxhunted in the winter while our summers were spent competing in AERC endurance riding. Now, he is now my full-time foxhunter with summers off so he can simply hang out and relax with is fellow buddy ponies - as befitting an older trooper that has had a long, interesting, and action-packed life.
